Premier 2 Men vs Naenae Sunday 9 August 11:15am
Final score: 4-3 (C Hurford, E Kerruish, T Garrett, S Govan)
(HT: 3-2)
MVP points: Shashi 3, Nathan 2, Trevor 1
We started brilliantly in this game - scoring at will in the first fifteen minutes. All three of our goals - a stroke by Craig after a penalty corner, Ethan's hit in from the spot after a run base line by Shashi and a nice goal by Trevor that went quickly between 4 players including all 3 strikers came from great build up play and possession. However, again things fell apart after we made a couple of defensive lapses that led to penalty corners and goals. We went into halftime 3-2 and knowing that we should have been up 4-0 at least. The second half was ruined by some tough umpiring calls that and our inability to stay composed. Rob was yellow carded (again) for lashing out after getting some rough treatment and Nathan was also yellow carded for absolutely no reason. The second half turned into a mess and it looked like it was leading to 3-3. However, we continued to press and managed to control possession again for the last 15 minutes. The goal came from great buildup play down the right where Jonny received the ball and beat his man putting a through ball through to Nathan on the right hand side of the circle who put it across the front of the goal to Shashi who dived head first and put the ball in the back of the goal. A great goal and some positive play after too much negativity.
We need to win the next four to get to the final two and there is no doubt our team has the ability to do it. We just need to keep our heads and play positive hockey for 70 minutes. Too often a couple of things go against us or we have a lapse and we get down on ourselves and get negative, losing composure along the way. This next 4 games is all in our head. If we back ourselves and and each other we can do it.
