Sarah Neaves
P2 Women's Team Captain

Sarah has played hockey since she was five, mainly in Christchurch for Pegasus who have now merged with their arch enemy Woolston to make Avon (she thinks!).  Sarah took four years out of the hockey scene to travel the UK and Europe, and on returning needed a club in Wellington.  After a very brief (and rusty!) stint at Harbour City, Sarah joined Northern United after being persuaded by her husband that Northern United was “by far a more superior club” (Jase plays for the P2 Men’s team).  Sarah said the move was great from a social perspective as “the girls at Northern United are fabulous, the team get on really well on and off the field and it’s very sociable.”  She says she’s sure “Jono (P2 Women’s coach) would probably prefer the team do more running and less drinking/talking at times!”

Sarah has enjoyed the last two seasons at Northern, especially as the team have done really well.  They have played in the last two finals, not dropping a game last season until the final, and have had two P1 challenges.  Sarah says the team are “gutted on narrowly missing out this year” and will be looking to take out the title and gain a P1 spot in the 09 season.  A new face or two would be welcome in the team, so if you’re interested in playing for Northern United you can email Sarah (sarah.neaves@nzpost.co.nz) or Fiona, the Women’s Club Captain (Fiona.Spring@parliament.govt.nz.)  Trials are fast approaching.
